Network Configuration
There is more than one way to configure your installation of NetLog. The option you choose for your organization will depend on your requirements and current network configuration.
Below we will outline the main options indicating the benefits or each. This is not a definitive list, a very wide extensive range of network configurations will be supported. If in doubt contact our support team for advice.
Stand Alone - Basic Single User
This setup is the default when choosing the trial version. This setup would generally be used where there is no need for multiple users. It may be the case that one member of staff deals with all bookings and general administration.
In this example the client machine will have a copy of NetLog and required database files installed on the local hard disk. The printer for report output can also be attached directly to the client machine.
Please note that initial installation setup can be modified later if you choose to expand and have more users.
Server and Single PC - Single User
This setup often used for smaller organisations that have a server on their network.
In this example the client machine will have a copy of NetLog installed. The database files will reside in a shared directory on the server, accessible by the client machine.
In these scenarios it is often the case that the server has backup features which will ensure that the database is covered just in case of hardware failure or misuse.
Server and Networked Client Machines - Multiple Concurrent Users
This setup is more suitable for larger organisations that require multiple users all connecting to a shared database.
In this example the client machines will have a copy of NetLog installed. The database files will reside in a shared directory on the server, accessible by all clients that require access.
Each installation of NetLog will request the location of the database files on load and will display a simple file browsing dialogue to allow the user to locate the files.
Once the files have been located and write access validated, the application will load the main form allowing for immediate processing.
